Mapping Initiative: Gold Mining in Suriname

The Amazon Conservation Team, an organisation dedicated to ecological conservation – alongside and supported by working with indigenous peoples have produced a mapping initiative which details the expansion of gold mining in Suriname. This brilliant resource explains the history and trends of the expansion, as well as its impacts upon nature and indigenous communities.

The resource uses a wide variety of maps, well-designed and informative, alongside narrative description, to give a detailed and engaging picture, which shines a light on this oft-forgot country and the damaging influence of the gold-mining upon it.
