Kauri logs, buried in the wetlands of New Zealand are tens of thousands of years old. They are a national treasure, have long been a part of Maori art and culture and also serve as a ‘sponge’ to regulate the biodiverse wetlands. These logs are being mined with impunity – in violation of national law, without regard to the local economy or to the environment. It has to stop!
