Peru – Mining and Human Rights Defenders

This video, by Front Line Defenders, gives a good overview of the mining and human rights situation in Peru – especially its impact upon rural indigenous communities and their opposition. It provides a measured, but critical, take on the actions of the police and military then goes into more depth about the nonviolent defenders of human rights – lawyers and otherwise who are targeted by pro-mining groups (or mining bully-boys), why their work is so crucial and why we should support them.
