In December 2015, Kenya’s was one of the 196 countries that signed the COP21 Climate Agreement in Paris. By agreeing that warming must be limited to below 2degrees, the government acknowledged that at least 2/3 of the world’s known fossil fuel reserves, including 80% of the world’s coal, must stay buried and unburned.
Despite this gesture, the government are still planning to construct a 980 MW coal power plant in beautiful Lamu, Kenya.
On Thursday 7th December, Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta, is expected to come to Lamu, Kenya, tomorrow for a two day visit. This gives us an opportunity to tell him we do not want a coal power plant in Lamu. In fact we do not want a coal plant anywhere in the world.
Please join us in a social media action to call for a halt to this coal madness!
If you are on Facebook, please update your status to ask Uhuru Kenyatta to halt the planned power plant in Lamu.
It only takes 10 seconds take these actions, but those 10 seconds may save the lives of millions.
