Sister Stella Matutina – In Defence of Life

“Development is not about amassing profits and money in the hands of the few.”

Sister Stella Matutina, a prominent Filipino human rights and environmental defender, describes the great suffering foreign mining companies have brought to the Philippines. Challenging the argument that mining brings development, Sister Stella describes how the people of the Philippines are fighting for justice and to protect their lands, livelihoods and homes.

This interview accompanies In Defence of Life, a documentary that follows the trials and triumphs of four communities fighting back against mining giants. Watch it here: vimeo.com/162669257
