Apoyo!

Take Action: Support Galician YLNM members’ campaign to investigate the San Finx mine

Background

The San Finx mine, visited by members of YLNM earlier this year, is being opposed by local people concerned about the impacts re-opening a mine that fuelled World War II on lands and livelihoods.

The petition put forward to the EU Parliament voices the people’s claims that no information was made public, nor were public consultations held, before the reopening of the San Finx tungsten mine in Lousame. It also raises concerns that the reopening of the mine puts the San Fins River at a high risk of pollution.

Their official petition is likely to lead to an investigation by the European Commission on infringement and non-compliance with EU regulations on mining dams and environmental impact assessment.

The “Petition No 0059/2017 by Ismael Antonio López Pérez (from Spain) on the Lousame tungsten mine in Galicia” is now open to additional supporters from all over Europe and the world, through the European Parliament’s Petition Portal.

How can you support?

Your support is crucial to secure a thorough investigation on this matter, with wider implications for other aggresive and destructive mining projects throughout Galicia, Spain and Europe.
